Need To Know

Review : Cyclo Maniacs

Cyclo Maniacs fun and depth will keep you playing long after you'd wished you'd gone to bed.  The game is the latest addition to the racing/stunt game genre.  Basically you race along the horizontally scrolling track trying to complete each tracks unique challenges.

Review : ROLY POLY Eliminator

It seems that Johnny-K's ROLY POLY people have been with us for a while now.  When we first met I spent my time shooting bombs out of cannons in my quest to kill bad ROLY POLY's.  In their latest incarnation the cannon is gone but otherwise the aim is the same : kill the bad ROLY POLY's.

Review : Semantic Wars

You are a mighty warrior.  A veteran of many successful castle sieges.  But how will you cope if you need to earn every warrior by guessing a  hidden word.

The Balance Of Power Learning Curve

Balance Of Power is the third game I've published.  Each game has been a real learning experience for very different reasons.  So it seems a good idea now BOP has been in the wild for a week to reflect on what I've learning in the process.  More experienced game developers will no doubt nod sagely at some of these points and shake their heads at others (I know I still have a lot to learn).

Review : Upgrade Complete

In the last year we have seen a growing number of micro-transaction systems emerge.  The most recent example is the Mochigames system evident in "Crazy Go Nuts 2".  The idea of these systems is that the games provides a certain amount of functionality but more fun can be had by purchasing upgrades or additional levels.  "Upgrade Complete" is a new game that plays with our obsession with purchasing upgrades.

Top 10 Adventure Games

In the last month we've taken a look at the Top 15 Action games and Top 10 Puzzle Games on GeekGlue games for the first half of 2009. This week we are looking at the Top 10 Adventure games for the same period. Adventure game is a pretty broad category. A lot of adventure games were traditionally point-and-click games. For example, Myst is clearly an adventure game. But it seems a stretch to call Escape the Room games an adventure. Games like Myst didn't have an action component.

Balance Of Power - Strategy Guide

The release of my new game "Balance of Power" is only a couple of weeks away which seems like an ideal time to offer a taste of whats to come. Below is a screen capture of the game play and a strategy guide.

Top 10 Puzzle Games

Last week we took a look at the Top 15 Action games on GeekGlue games for the first half of 2009. This week we are looking at the Top 10 Puzzles games for the same period. There is no doubt that action games (and more specifically shooters) dominate online casual gaming. But it would be very interesting to see the numbers broken down into demographics as I suspect the older you get the less interested you get in shooting things (and in games that demand physical dexterity).
